SUMMARY:Workshop at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music: Teaching & learning voice with a physical disability
DESCRIPTION:I was invited to lead a two-hours workshop about teaching and learning voice with a physical disability by Prof. Lorna MacDonald\, Lois Marshall Chair in Voice Studies at the University of Toronto. My workshop consisted of a one-hour presentation of frameworks and case studies in music and disability focused on voice\, followed by a questions-answers period\, and a workshop actively engaging the body\, changing positions and balance constraints to discover other ways of positioning ourselves while singing.

DESCRIPTION:The Division of Musicology and Ethnomusicology at the Butler School of Music presents a Zoom lecture by Diane Kolin\, “A Dive into Music and Disability\, from Theory to Practice.” \n\nFree and open to the public. Please register at the Zoom link provided: https://sites.utexas.edu/musethno/events/zoom-lecture-diane-kolin-a-dive-into-music-and-disability-from-theory-to-practice/  \n\nDiane Kolin is a PhD candidate in Musicology at York University\, Toronto. Her diverse research interests include Critical Disability Studies\, Ludwig van Beethoven\, and Franz Liszt\, and her dissertation focuses on professional musicians\, composers\, and music specialists with disabilities. She is the editor in chief of the Journal of the French Beethoven Society. The study of Beethoven’s deafness and Diane’s personal history led to her research in disability and music. Diane is also a voice teacher and a singer who advocates for more accessibility in orchestras\, choirs\, and music education.
